Building cruise ship models has been a popular hobby for generations — centuries ago, model ships were only available to the rich, especially admirals and sea captains, giving them a “luxurious” vibe that everyone wanted to have in their home. After the industrial revolution, it was possible for almost anyone to begin collecting model ships and now, model ships are simply fun to build and collect!
If you’re looking for a hobby that’s both challenging and relaxing at the same time, you’re going to love building cruise ship models! Many cruise ship models come disassembled with hundreds (if not thousands) of tiny parts, so you can spend hours on end building a grand, luxurious ship and fitting the pieces together like a large, complex jigsaw puzzle.
Just add a desk lamp and a cup of coffee to keep concentration levels high, and you’ll have a complete cruise ship model in no time.
At Frontline Hobbies, we have one of the largest collections of model ship kits Australia has to offer. From the elegant RMS Titanic and the Queen Mary 2 civilian ships to basic harbour tug boats and fishing boats, you’re bound to find something new and exciting to add to your cruise ship model collection!

The history behind our popular RMS Titanic models
In modern history, it’s unusual to find someone who doesn’t know the name “Titanic”. After all, the historic sinking was turned into one of James Cameron’s most successful romance/disaster films starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio — and for good reason. The Titanic’s maiden voyage (and subsequent sinking) made the history books in 1912, especially considering it was the largest and most innovative ocean liner of the time.
In the early morning hours of April 15th 1912, the Titanic struck an iceberg in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. There were 2,224 people on board but less than half of the passengers survived the two hours, 40-minute sinking event.
The RMS Titanic was one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history and since then, the event has captured the world’s imagination for generations.
When the ship was on the surface, the RMS Titanic was one of three Olympic-class ocean liners and was the largest ship in the world, almost one and a half times the tonnage of the RMS Lusitania and the RMS Mauretania, the previous record holders. The First Class Parlour Suites cost more than $4,350 ($117,000 today) for one transatlantic passage — needless to say, First Class was the height of luxury!
Even Third Class was unusually comfortable by contemporary standards with lots of good food and better conditions than the passengers had ever experienced at home.
At Frontline Hobbies, the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic has sparked our imaginations, too, which is why we stock some of the most accurate Titanic models available on the market. From leading brands like Trumpeter, Academy, Hobby Boss and Revell, the RMS Titanic will fit in perfectly with your model ship collection.
Our pride and glory: the Trumpeter 1/200 Titanic Plastic Model Kit with LED Lights! Featuring 1280+ parts, single-piece full hull, detailed multi-level superstructure, individual deck fittings, masts, ships, boats, a chain for the anchor, transparent accents, photo-etch railings and more, this is one of the most detailed models available here at Frontline Hobbies. It even has LED lights so you can switch them on at night and imagine the RMS Titanic sailing across the icy North Atlantic Sea.

If you’re looking for incredible Japanese engineering, the Kasuga-Maru, Nitta-Maru and Yawata-Maru Passenger Liners are a must-have. The original ships were built by Mitsubishi Shipbuilding & Engineering Co in 1938 and were used in the Japanese Navy during World War II. These ships had a lot of uses — as carrier and cargo ships for Japanese aircraft, passenger ships and more.

Our cruise ship models come with a sturdy stand that you can use to display your ship, so you can display them just about anywhere e.g. a mantelpiece or a shelf.
