Description

In the Iranian empire before 1978, the king at the time, Pahlavi II, measured the military superiority of the Middle East region and was wary of the Soviet Union, so he sought to purchase aviation weapons. The F-4D was ordered in 1967, and 32 newly built aircraft were delivered by 1970 despite the then-ongoing Vietnam War. When Pahlavi II resigned in February 1979 due to the Iranian Revolution, and the anti-American Islamic Republic of Iran was established, the U.S. instituted a weapons ban and the subsequent supply of this aircraft, including replacement parts, was cut off; even so, Iran began using the F-4D. The F-4D has been confirmed to be in operation until recent years.
