Hasegawa has launched into a relatively untouched area in scale modeling with this release. While there have been a few kits of construction equipment released over the decades, there hasn't been a new-tooled kit of this genre in some time. Two companies produced World War 2 era bulldozers which could have been painted in civilian (war surplus) colors, but nothing reflecting the modern age. In addition to this construction roller, Hasegawa also has an excavator and a log handler in the works. Best of all, these are all 1/35 scale.

This kit represents the modern day 'steam roller' that is used to flatten and smooth out newly laid pavement or gravel on roadways and other flat surfaces. This Hitachi roller can be found on the streets of Japan and was first commercially available in 2015. In time, this roller may find its way onto roads in various parts of the world.

The kit is molded in styrene and presented on seven parts trees, two molded in orange, three molded in gray, one molded in white, and one molded in clear. If you look at the white tree, the roller itself is slide-molded so there are no seams in the cylinder.
