The world was first introduced to Gundam in the 1979 TV show “Mobile Suit Gundam”.
Four decades of the series has expanded into various TV series, movies, novels, manga, video games and OVAs and, of course, the popular Gundam models and figures.
SD Gundam figures
Super Deformed, or SD, Gundam models are disproportionately squat Gundams first developed in the 1980s in response to a drawing submitted by a high school student from Nagoya.
These less lifelike and more comical characters proved to be extremely popular with Japanese kids and SD Gundam merch and became far more popular than the rest of the Gundam universe during the late 80s to early 90s.
Nowadays, SD Gundam models are still highly collectible with everything from Freedom Gundam to the Hello Kitty GUNPLA.
High Grade Gundam figures
High Grade, or HG, Gundam kits feature enhanced movability and posing ability compared with most no-grade kits. These easy to assemble kits stand about 13 cm tall at 1/144 scale.
HG is also used by Bandai on other sci-fi and anime model lines including Dynamic Characters, Pacific Rim: Uprising and Sakura Wars. Browse over 1,000 HG Gundam models including the HGUC Sazabi GUNPLA.
Master Grade
Master Grade, or MG, are favourites among collectors thanks to their precise details and accurate proportions. With added movability and poseability, these 18 cm 1/100 scale models are a great choice for GUNPLA modellers of all levels.
Master Grade was first introduced as part of the Gundam 15th Anniversary project in 1995. Many MG kits come with miniature scale character figurines to help show the size of the Mobile Suit.
Perfect Grade
Perfect Grade, or PG, Bandai GUNPLA kits are some of the highest quality models produced by the brand with added features like light-up LEDs and high attention to detail.
As of 2020, Bandai also produces the Perfect Grade Unleashed sub-line which features complex models and kits with diecast metal elements in celebration of GUNPLA’s 40th anniversary.
Perfect Grade are some of the most highly detailed Gundam models - at 1/60 scale they stand at around 30 cm tall. Up your GUNPLA game with the PG Unleashed 1/60 RX-78-2 Gundam Gunpla Plastic Model Kit.
Real Grade
Real Grade, or RG, GUNPLA kits were first introduced to the Gundam line as part of Bandai’s 30th anniversary celebrations. These kits feature extra detail and articulation for an awesome, realistic finish. These GUNPLA models stand about 18 cm tall at 1/100 scale. If you’re all about detail you’ll love models like the Gundam 1/144 RG RX-78-2 and the Bandai Gundam 1/144 RG FX550 Sky Grasper Launch / Sword.
